SPRINGFIELD’S YARD WASTE/LEAF PICKUP BEGINS APRIL 9 2018 Residents must place their leaves in brown paper leaf bags or plastic containers that are no more than 30 gallons and weigh no more than 50 lbs.  Leaves should be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on the Monday morning during their areas yard waste collection period.  All leaves placed properly by 7:00 a.m. each Monday during the designated time frame will be picked up.   Guidelines have been modified restricting the use of metal cans in order to reduce injury. Metal cans and overweight containers or bags will not be picked up. Crews will place a sticker on any bag or container that does not meet the criteria and residents will be asked to re-bag their leaves.   Other details about the program: All bags in compliance will be picked up and there is no need to call to schedule the service. Do not remove the bagged leaves from the curb once you place them there. Bags should be placed at the end of driveways or on parkways between the sidewalk and street. Leaves should be placed in paper yard waste bags—not grocery sacks or boxes. Do not use any type of tape on the bag to seal it shut as the tape is not recyclable. Plastic bags are not accepted. Yard waste stickers do not need to be placed on the bags during this collection period. Residents should be advised that sweeping leaves into the street is a city violation and doing so could result in a fine.  Residents may also take their yard waste/leaves to Evans Recycling located at 2100 J. David Jones Parkway, Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Drop off is free during the collection time period. BRANCH DROP OFF FREE YEAR-ROUND Residents may take their branches to Evans Recycling located at 2100 J. David Jones Parkway, Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays 7:00 a.m. – 12- noon. Branches can be dropped off to Evans for free all year-round.   SNOW-MUCH INFO! The Office of Public Works “Snow and Ice Removal Procedures” along with their “Commonly Asked Questions” about their snow removal process is available on the city’s website: http://springfield.il.us/Departments/PublicW orks/snowRemoval.aspx.  It can also be accessed under the “Residents” tab directly.  A map will be available soon, allowing residents the ability to see the snow plowing progress during storms.   ELECTRONIC RECYCLING IS STILL AVAILABLE! The City of Springfield’s electronic recycling program is available to all City residents through December 31.  BLH Computers is the provider and you may take your electronic waste to their location at 1832 Adlai Stevenson Drive.  Regular recycling hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.  If you have questions about whether or not an item is accepted, you may contact BLH at 217.585.1580 or visit the City website, www.springfield.il.us/recycling.
